Low
Income Energy Assistance Program
LIHEAP has been designed to
assist low-income families in Spartanburg and Cherokee counties with their
energy costs. This program is available both in the winter and summer
to help with heating and cooling needs.
Applications
for Direct Assistance
are taken from fall until winter for heating
needs, and from spring until summer for cooling needs. Direct Assistance
is received at a later date by mail in the form of a certificate, which
can be redeemed by the vendor to assist with the families energy
cost.
The Emergency Crisis
Intervention Program
is available to for low income families who may find themselves without
heat or in danger of having their heat disconnected, and are without funds
to pay their energy bill. Emergency assistance may be available for cooling
if medically necessary. This assistance is treated as an emergency, and
families are served the same day their application is completed.
The Duke Power
Fan Program
serves elderly households, sixty years of age or older, with a fan for
cooling.
Project Heat
also serves families in need of heating assistance, and is funded by Duke
power and private donations.
