Community Services Block Grant Program

South Carolina Youth Leadership Program
(SCYLP)

  • The State of South Carolina Youth Leadership Program (SCYLP) is a state-wide initiative funded by the Governor's Office of Opportunity in partnership with the SC Department of Education - District Seven Schools. Activities are currently operated out of Whitlock Junior High School as well as PCA.
  • The SCYLP provides new options and opportunities for positive youth development. SCYLP facilitates linkages between stakeholders, community and youth. Targeted youth are deficient in basic literacy skills and require additional assistance. The program prepares junior high students (ages 12-14) with leadership skills for becoming productive achievers and future adult leaders in the community.
  • SCYLP provides character education in the areas of civic responsibility, life skills, career exploration, graphic / fine arts, public speaking, computer literacy and academics for higher learning.
  • A CSBG Youth Advisory Council consisting of parents, youth, business, private and non-profit sector representatives functions to establish a mechanism for ensuring on-going coordination and program monitoring.
